Takao Okawara (born December 20, 1949 in Tokyo, Japan) is a Japanese film director, writer and producer.


Most famous for directing three Heisei Godzilla films, Okawara joined Akira Kurosawa and Ishirō Honda on the film Kagemusha (1980). Four years later, Okawara became the assistant director for the first Heisei Godzilla film: The Return of Godzilla (1984). Okawara directed his first film Reiko, the Psyche Resurrected (1991), which he also wrote. Okawara directed the most profitable Heisei Godzilla film, Godzilla vs. Mothra, in 1992. He also directed the first film Millennium Godzilla film, Godzilla 2000 (1999).
