Pat Welsh (February 11, 1915 — January 26, 1995) was an American film actress.

Early life

She was born in San Francisco, California.

Welsh only appeared in three films, most famously as the voice of E.T. in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982). When Welsh was in a camera store, Ben Burtt, the sound designer of the film's character E.T., heard her talking and asked her to audition for the role. As a chain smoker, she had a raspy voice that gave E.T. its trademark speech sound. She also had beenhired by George Lucas to be the voice of Boushh in Star wars Return of The Jedi. Lucas had said he was in the laundry mat when he thought her ambiguous voice was perfect.

She died from pneumonia in Green Valley, Arizona.
