Manga worldwide has not recieved nearly as much attention as it has in Japan. Although many manga have been translated into English and sent to areas like North America or Europe, manga is hardly originally produced outside of Japan and is wholely less popular (though there are many dedicated manga fans outside of Japan, many who gather on the Internet to share discussion). Tokyopop has helped catapult Manga into popular culture by not only publishing Japanese Manga, but Manga from International artists.

Anime, on the other hand, has been greatly successful outside of Japan (though not to the degree of Japan's huge fandom).
