The anime adaptation of the Guin Saga novels by Kaoru Kurimoto started airing on April 5, 2009 on the NHK channel in Japan. The anime is directed by Atsushi Wakabayashi, and the score is provided by Nobuo Uematsu and it is produced by Satelight. The story is about a mysterious warrior, Guin, who has the head of a leopard. He meets an ousted young prince and princess and helps them, while trying to recover his memories.

The anime uses two pieces of theme music. "Guin no Theme (グインのテーマ)" by Nobuo Uematsu is the series' opening theme, while "Saga ~ This is my road" by Kanon is the series' ending theme.[1]

After the destruction of the kingdom of Parros, the twins Rinda and Remus want to escape to Argos but are accidentally sent to the Roodwood. They are attacked by Mongauli black knights but are saved by Guin, a warrior with a human body but a head of a leopard. Together they escape from the forest but are taken into custody by more black knights.
02 The Black Count's Fortress

Guin and the twins are captured by the Mongauli soldiers. After a long march they are brought to the Black Count. There he talks to them and after Guin attacks him because he wants to protect Rinda, he has to fight against a very strong monster of the Count's. Guin defeats it and then he has to fight against another captive too, the mercenary Istavan Spellsword.
03 The Crimson Mercenary

The match between Guin and Istavan are about to start when the Black Count suddenly takes leave. The match shall then be held the next day. When they are taken back to their cells, Rinda is brought to a different cell while Guin and Remus are taken to a cell next to Istavan. Rinda's cellmate is a member of a small monkey-like race called the Sem. Her name is Suni. That night, Istavan escapes while the fortress is attacked by the Sem and Guin is freed by Orro, a young soldier. The Black Count takes Rinda from her cell to suck her blood, revealing himself to be a spirit. Guin interrupts and defeats the Black Count. Guin takes the twins and Suni and escapes by jumping into the river Kes.
04 Crossing the River of Death

Crystal Aldo Nalis is seen how he is looking down on Parros and hoping that the twins survived. Meanwhile Guin together with the twins and Istavan are crossing the river Kes to escape out of Mongauli territory. During their travel Istavan asks Rinda about the Maiden of Light. They also have to face monsters that are living in then river and also to fight them. Then they encounter the white Mongauli Riders but due to an attack of Big Mouth, they can somehow escape the soldiers. General Amnelis, the daughter of the important Mongauli minister Vlad is introduced, and she leaves with nearly a legion to hunt down Guin and his group.
05 Destined Meeting

After following Guin, General Amnelis is attacked by a Big Mouth but is saved by Lord Marus the head of the 8th Blue Knight troop. Guin and the others are resting at a safe place and Remus accidentally reveals to Istavan that the twins are the heirs of Parros, but despite that Istavan decides to stay with them.

The Mongauli troops find where Guin and company are and Marus attacks, taking Guin and the twins as captives while Istavan escapes. After leading them to General Amnelis, she decides to return with the captives to Alvon Keep. That night, Istavan frees Guin and the twins by luring a Sand Worm into the camp. They escape together but are followed by Astreas, a leader of one of the Red Knight platoons.

Guin is taken prisoner by the Lagon. When he is brought before the leaders of the Lagon he claims to be sent by their god. This angers the Lagon and eventually he fights their hero, with the promise of the Lagon that if he manages to defeat their hero, they will recognize him as a messenger of their god, and if Guin loses, his life is forfeit. Istavan lures Marus into a Sem ambush where Marus is killed by being covered in oil and set on fire.
10 The Frontier King

The Mongaul find out the hiding place of the Sem and surround them at night while they are sleeping. The Sem are surprised by this attack and after a short fight they try to flee. With the Mongaul army pursuing the Sem all seems lost. At that moment Guin arrives with the Lagon and counters the Mongaul army, witch causes the Mongauls to retreat.
11 The Warriors

The defeated lady Amnelis returns to her father, where she learns that her father has a marriage planned for her. Guin prepares to leave Nosferatu. The prince of Crystal returns to the city of Crystal, he first manages to enter the city but is later taken captive.
